Roadkill Nights Returns to Woodward Avenue

Seven years ago David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan had the idea to go drag racing in the Silverdome parking lot…

The event was so popular that it became a yearly tradition known as ‘MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge’ and although the Silverdome was demolished, the legal street racing continues on historic Woodward Avenue. With the help of Dodge, M1 Concourse and the city of Pontiac, Roadkill Nights brings street racing back to Detroit’s famous Woodward Avenue August 13, 2022. Roadkill also kicks off the week of car shows around metro Detroit that culminates with the Woodward Dream Cruise.

“We are marking the seventh year of Roadkill Nights because of the passion of our enthusiasts, who have turned out by the tens of thousands year after year to join us in an annual celebration of all things high performance. We can’t wait to return to Woodward with our friends from MotorTrend.”

Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand CEO

Last year’s online automotive builder showdown, won last year by Alex Taylor, will return for 2022, event organizers said. Dodge Direct Connection Grudge Race competitors will use Direct Connection parts to build their own a drag-race machine under a tight deadline before bringing it to Woodward to go head-to-head on the strip. Direct Connection parts available as “building blocks” for competitors will include the Hellcrate Redeye 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI engine and a plug-and-play Hellcrate Redeye 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine Control Unit (ECU).

“If you’ve ever dreamed of watching street-legal drag racing down Woodward Avenue, come to our event! It’s going to be an absolutely epic day and night. Going strong for seven years, the event has something for everyone. Whether you’re a drag racer, car enthusiast, or just looking for a fun day to spend with family, Roadkill Nights promises a dynamic experience.”

Eric Schwab, MotorTrend Group SVP

Roadkill Nights is more than just an excuse to run your street legal race car down Woodward Avenue with permission from the local authorities. Dodge is bringing back the Hellcat Thrill Rides and Hellcat Simulators, where fans can take a ride with professional drifters or try to digitally pilot a Hellcat down a 1/4-mile of pixels. Metro Detroit’s finest rods, customs, muscle cars, and trick trucks will be on display at M1 Concourse, and there will be plenty of food and live entertainment to enjoy in between the rounds of legal street racing.
